At the Dharnya Centre, we deliver fully managed Yorta Yorta education experiences where students and teachers can connect deeply with culture, Country, and community. Our programs are curriculum-aligned, child safe, and designed to be flexible for primary, secondary, and tertiary groups.
From day excursions to multi-day cultural camps, all programs are led by Yorta Yorta Knowledge Holders and community members who share authentic stories, practices, and perspectives.
What’s Included in Our Programs
Engagement with Yorta Yorta Elders and Community Members:
Arrange for your students to interact directly with Yorta Yorta Elders and community members who can share their knowledge, stories, and traditions. This direct engagement provides a deeper understanding and appreciation of Yorta Yorta culture.
Immersive Cultural Activities:
We offer a range of hands-on experiences that immerse students in Yorta Yorta culture. These may include a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony, Kingfisher Cruise on the Murray River, and guided Cultural Walks — all led by Yorta Yorta Cultural Officers.
Guided Tours of Barmah National Park:
Explore the stunning Barmah National Park with knowledgeable Yorta Yorta guides who can share the significance of the land, its flora, fauna, and historical landmarks from a Yorta Yorta perspective.
Hands-On Learning Experiences:
Dharnya offers engaging learning experiences for students from Foundation through to University. All activities are aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, and we also provide an in-school program tailored specifically for Foundation to Level 2 students.
Reflection and Discussion Sessions:
Schedule time for reflection and group discussions where students can process their experiences, ask questions, and reflect on what they’ve learned about Yorta Yorta culture, history, and their own perspectives.
Respectful and Responsible Engagement:
Emphasise the importance of respectful and responsible engagement with the land, culture, and people. Encourage students to approach the experience with an open mind, humility, and a willingness to learn and listen.

All relevant staff hold current Working with Children Checks in accordance with Victorian requirements, ensuring compliance with child safety standards.
